ABOUT

The Studio is led by Dr. Julia-Constance Dissel. After her studies in philosophy, art history and archeology in Basel, Freiburg and Frankfurt and in cultural and media practice, she obtained a doctorate in philosophy at the Goethe University Frankfurt. In addition to her research and teaching acivities mostly in the philosophy of mind, aesthetics and ethics in design and the arts that led her to diverse universities amongst others Oxford, Konstanz and Darmstadt, she has ever since been highly engaged in curating and publishing wherefor she started her own studio for art and design projects. She has realized diverse exhibitions and publication projects in cooperation with museums and universities as well as companies, promoting works from artists and designers around the world such as Gerhard Richter, Tobias Rehberger, Ed Ruscha, Christine De La Garenne, Christiane Feser, Sandra Mann, Hella Jongerius, amongst others. Whilst working in the professorship-programme at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt and at the Institute for Design Research, Julia constantly tries to match her interests in the arts and ethics through a studio business that practically combines strong theoretical and conceptual knowledge, needed in the professional mediation of art and design, with the passion for sustainable and conscientious business in which all stakeholders benefit and also charity becomes good investment.

 

Teresa Novotny has been working as a freelancer for the curator studio Art & Design since October 2018. She is studying industrial design at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and also works as a research assistant at the Institute for Design Research at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. Her interests and work focus on design methodology, the interplay of gender and design, and design for sustainability.
